Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Sr. Engineer, Fleet Services ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.

DDG
51 Class Onboard/Onsite Electrical/Electronic Systems Integration Fleet Service Engineer, responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the correction of shipboard warranty, incomplete new construction and Government tasked emergent repairs in the areas of Electrical/Electronic Systems Integration.

Key Responsibilities Safety Leadership:
  • Follow all GDBIW and Govt. Safety Regulations.
  • Help Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
  • Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with government and company safety standards.
Project Execution:
  • Investigate and determine the contractual responsibility for alleged guarantee items and/or incomplete new construction work items.
  • Serve as onboard/onsite Fleet Service representative resolving shipboard electrical/electronic system issues and/or supervising the execution of a project/work package.
  • Be on-call 24 hours/day, 365 days/year and prepared to travel on short notice anywhere in the world providing "quick response" customer service.
  • Provide on-call support to both BIW and NGSB ships during the shakedown period for control, instrumentation, network, alarm and indication, communication and electrical systems.
  • Provide support to ship exercises, tests and surveys, including LOA, PDT&T, CSSQT, Final Contract Trials as required.
  • Manage subcontractors to execute tasked repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
Team Collaboration and Communication:
  • Conduct daily interaction with the customer, including;
    Ship's Commanding Officer and Crew, SSBA, PMS
    400D, Type Commander, Regional Maintenance Center, Port Engineer, FTSC (LANT/PAC), NAVSSES, etc.
  • Provide Ship Class design and performance feedback and recommendations to the appropriate Government and LYS entities.
  • Lead integrated troubleshooting and diagnostic teams made up of various shipbuilder, vendor, NAVSEA, and NAVSSES personnel.
  • Coordinate efforts of Subcontractors and Ships Force to proactively solve issues.
  • Keep the Desk Man and other team members apprised of issues and resolutions.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Follow BIW Business Operating System principles and productivity enhancements.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • At a minimum, the applicant should possess an Associate's Degree in a technical or business discipline and/or be a BIW Apprentice Graduate, or have equivalent experience in Shipbuilding, Manufacturing, or Testing.
  • An undergraduate degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or a similar discipline is preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • Candidates should have (5+) years of collective experience working on/supervising shipboard Electrical/Electronic Systems Integration, preferably on DDG
    51 Class Ships.
  • Experience in working with 4160 ACV power systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of DDG-51 Class Destroyers, along with experience gained in a Navy waterfront maintenance environment, will factor in the selection process.

Additional Requirements:
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team are required.
  • Offsite travel can approach 4 months or more on average in a one-year period.
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet ship's operational schedule demands
  • Maintain a valid Passport.

This position requires you to be able to obtain a government secret security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
