Overview
Marine Painter (US Navy Submarine) at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine. Join GDIT as a Marine Painter to contribute to submarine maintenance and modernization efforts within the In-Service Attack Submarines Program Office (PMS 392) under PEO SSN. The role supports repair, maintenance, removal/installation, troubleshooting and associated testing for CNO submarine maintenance availabilities, contributing to the material condition and modernization of fast attack submarines of the United States Navy.
Responsibilities- Remove and apply paint coatings on submarines and submarine components.
- Prepare and paint/preserve surfaces of submarine interior and exterior tanks.
- Use power and hand tools to prepare surfaces for preservation; operate needle guns and related equipment.
- Groom and complete final paint-out of submarine compartments; protect equipment and surfaces from dust, paint, and damage.
- Prepare coating materials by toning, matching, blending and mixing additives as required, and apply with brushes or rollers per technical direction.
- 2+ years of related experience in the painting trade in heavy industry or on marine vessels, including surface preparation for painting.
- HS or GED equivalency.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance; must be able to obtain DOD-type final security clearance as applicable (DISCO) and have final favorable adjudicated tier 3 investigation.
- Trained and qualified to wear respiratory protection devices per 29 CFR (Subpart I).
- Experienced with environmental requirements for coating application, removal, disposal, and compliance with OSHA, Federal and Navy procedures.
- Proficient in applying paint free of discontinuities (skips, runs, drips, holidays) and in surface preparation for tanks, bulkheads, voids, bilges and machinery spaces on naval vessels.

Preparations for Painting;
Paint/Blast Hazards;
Cleaning Equipment Shipboard;
Selecting and Wearing Respirators. - Certified in accordance with SSPC standards and NAVSEA/NSTM requirements as applicable; familiarity with SSPC-1, 5, 10, and 11; NSTM S9086-VD-STM-030/Ch-631; and related OSHA requirements.
- Comply with respiratory protection, lead exposure and other hazardous material handling standards (e.g., 29 CFR 1910).
Location:
Onsite at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine.
Schedule:
40 hours per week. Travel: 50-75% as required.
