Summer Internship - Communications

Part of General Dynamics Marine Systems, Bath Iron Works is a full service shipyard specializing in the design, building and support of complex surface combatants for the U.S. Navy. Our summer internship program provides students with meaningful work experiences in their program of study and an increased awareness of our work environment.

Bath Iron Works is located on the coast of Maine in the city of Bath, 2.5 hours north of Boston, MA and 45 minutes from Maine's largest city, Portland. We are actively recruiting candidates pursuing degrees in the following areas:

The BIW Communications Department manages internal and external communications for the company, including distributing yard‑wide information through Bulletins, Employee Service Announcements, digital signage, automessenger, social media and other channels. The team also publishes press releases, the BIW News newsletter, and maintains the company’s public website, , along with BIW’s social media accounts and You Tube channel. These platforms showcase the service, accomplishments and innovation of our employees.

The team coordinates major company events such as christenings, keel layings, trade shows and the Master Shipbuilders Open House. We work with all departments and the U.S. Navy to ensure communications comply with GD Corporate Identity Standards and guidelines for imagery and proprietary information.

The Summer internship program begins Monday, May 17, 2027 and ends on Friday, August 6, 2027. Pay range for this position is $18/hr.

- $29/hr.

• Must currently be enrolled in a BS or MS Academic Program within Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration, Marketing, Journalism, Media Studies, Digital Media or related fields.
• Must be available to begin the Internship on Monday, May 17, 2027.

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Self-motivation and the ability to contribute as a team member.
• General computer skills and a knowledge of MS Office Suite.
• Ability to organize, plan and execute projects.
• Research skills and attention to detail.
