Postal Delivery Driver

Overview

Location: Bathgate Delivery Office, EH48 2EP

Job type: Fixed Term contract, 9 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.
Working hours: 35 hours per week, 5 days in 7 across Monday to Sunday (15:30–21:00)

Role: Delivery driver (Postie) for Royal Mail in Bathgate, delivering letters and parcels and serving the local community. The role may include weekend work and a rotating shift schedule. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

• Sort letters and parcels at the delivery office
• Deliver post by van and on foot in your local area
• Build relationships with customers
• Work outdoors in all weathers

Deliver a range of items beyond mail, such as exam results, birthday cards, business orders, and other items as part of the service. The work is rewarding but can be challenging.

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

Full training and uniform provided. You will need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs/hills, and lifting/carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
