Qualifications, Experience & Abilities

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Education Degree.
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education, Diverse Learners (SLDNE), or Master’s Degree in Inclusive Education (Curriculum & Instruction) or other directly related Master’s Degree.
  • A related field would include curriculum focus such as Literacy, Numeracy, or Technology.
Minimum Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years successful support teaching experience (e.g., Resource, Learning Centre, Learning Disabilities Support).
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in the use of TIENET to implement the Program Planning Process including the development and implementation of Individual Program Plans.
Minimum Ability

Predominately demonstrated through the interview process, the candidate will be assessed on their ability to effectively deal with situations that are likely to arise. Internal applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70% where they do not have experience in the position. External applicants must meet a minimum threshold of 70%.

Responsibilities
  • Establishing systems & routines.
  • SEL Programming.
  • Implementation of Adaptations & Individual Program Plans (IPPs).
  • Program Planning Process.
  • TIENET.
  • Supporting students with academic and behavioral challenges.
  • Scheduling and caseload management.
  • Selection of appropriate evidence‑based interventions to support students, transition planning, and complex case support.
Additional Assets
  • Focus of the position will be on supporting the development and implementation of programming.
  • Teachers, Learning Support Teachers (Resource, Learning Centre and Learning Disability Teachers), Educational Assistants, and Administration will be supported with the implementation of the program planning process to meet individual needs of students.
  • Support will be provided through modelling, co‑teaching, and observation/feedback.
  • Knowledge and experience of Teaching Support Teams and Student Planning Teams and the Program Planning Process.
  • Knowledge of classroom management and building positive student relationships.
  • Knowledge of local community supports.
  • Knowledge of Transition Planning.
  • Ability to develop and deliver professional learning to a variety of groups.
  • Knowledge of Differentiated Instruction (DI), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
