Position OverviewThe Civil Construction Estimator is a core role within the Sourcing, Estimating, and Contracting Division and is responsible for developing accurate, complete, and defensible cost estimates for civil construction projects performed nationwide. This role supports project pursuits from early pricing through bid submission and turnover. The Estimator is expected to understand civil construction means and methods, regional cost drivers, subcontractor coverage, and execution risk.
This is not an entry level position.
- Identify civil construction opportunities aligned with Genesis 360 capabilities.
- Proactively surface potential pursuits through industry awareness, subcontractor relationships, and project visibility.
- Evaluate initial scope, location, and execution considerations to determine viability.
- Bring identified opportunities forward to the SEC team for formal pursuit review.
- Support early go or no-go discussions with technical and pricing insight.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for civil scopes including earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, drainage, and site work.
- Review plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract requirements.
- Develop unit pricing based on production rates, crew assumptions, equipment, and regional conditions.
- Maintain organized estimate files and supporting documentation.
- Identify bid packages and solicit qualified subcontractors and suppliers.
- Evaluate subcontractor pricing for scope gaps, exclusions, and risk.
- Level bids and integrate subcontractor pricing into complete estimates.
- Coordinate material pricing, lead times, and availability for nationwide work.
- Develop direct and indirect cost models including mobilization, per diem, travel, and temporary facilities.
- Identify scope risk, logistical constraints, and regional labor considerations.
- Participate in internal pricing reviews and bid strategy discussions.
- Adjust estimates based on leadership direction and competitive conditions.
- Support preparation of bid forms, schedules, and pricing narratives.
- Assist with responses to clarifications during the bid period.
- Participate in post bid reviews and turnover meetings with Operations.
- Maintain historical cost data and lessons learned.
- Coordinate with Operations to validate constructability and execution assumptions.
- Incorporate lessons learned from completed projects into future estimates.
- Support continuous improvement of estimating templates, tools, and processes.
- Maintain consistency with SEC documentation and compliance standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- Five plus years of civil construction estimating experience.
- Experience estimating heavy civil, site, infrastructure, or marine projects.
- Strong understanding of civil construction means and methods.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Experience coordinating subcontractor pricing across multiple regions.
- Proficiency with estimating software and MS Excel.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Field experience and federal or large scale infrastructure work are a plus.
This role provides direct involvement in project selection, pricing strategy, and execution planning. Estimators at Genesis 360 play an active role in project pursuits and execution planning, with opportunities for continued professional growth over time.
Compensation and Benefits- Base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, anticipated range $90,000 to $120,000.
