The Louisiana Special Schools are experiencing a critical shortage of certified teachers, school counselors, interpreters, educators of the Deaf or hard of hearing, and Visually Impaired.
The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for a
Middle/High School Para educator, Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired (LSVI)
"This position is currently in Middle/High School but may move within other LSVI departments."

This is a full-time 9-month position, 8 hours per day.
To be filled for the school year.
Our para educators are paraprofessional teaching assistants working with children who have moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, autism, deafness, and blindness. They support instruction in inclusive classrooms, career and technical settings, or self-contained environments, focusing on transition, math, and literacy. Our goal: to prepare students for successful transitions to post-secondary pathways.
The employee must be able to perform duties safely and without risk of harm to themselves or others.
About the DistrictThe Special School District (SSD) serves over 1,800 students annually and aims to provide compassionate, collaborative, and innovative education for students with low-incidence disabilities. Our core values include:

The Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired (LSVI), established in 1852, serves blind and visually impaired children from birth to age 21. We offer comprehensive services, including instruction, outreach, extracurricular activities, assistive technology, transition, orientation and mobility, and Expanded Core training. We are committed to teaching Braille and using technology to meet diverse needs, aiming to prepare students for college and careers.

Qualifications- High school diploma and passing Para Pro assessment.
- Interest in working at a college-prep high school and with students with significant needs.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and belief in student potential.
- Willingness to develop skills in Braille, mobility, and assistive technology.
- Support students academically, socially, and behaviorally.
- Provide individualized and small group instruction.
- Assist with daily routines, including toileting support.
- Build positive relationships and foster an engaging learning environment.
- Communicate with families and participate in school activities.
- Perform clerical duties related to instruction and student records.
