Position Overview
A highly motivated and skilled Supervisor to lead the team of central utility plant operators in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on the grounds at Louisiana State University. This position balances technical expertise and administrative oversight. The ideal candidate brings a hands‑on approach to guiding and developing an early‑staged and evolving team of operators, inspiring and leading by example and invoking change. They are proficient in administrative responsibilities such as scheduling, reporting, payroll, overtime distribution, compliance documentation and other various reports.

ResponsibilitiesLead a team of operators, provide hands‑on guidance and development, inspire leadership and drive change. Perform administrative duties including scheduling, reporting, payroll, overtime distribution and compliance documentation. Maintain safe and efficient plant operations.
Qualifications- Minimum 5 years practical experience as a supervisor in District Energy, Utilities, Water Treatment, Campus, Hospital, Boiler Plant, Commercial HVAC, Industrial Processing, Chemical, Refining, Manufacturing or related environments.
- Visible color differentiation ability.
- Physical ability to walk, stoop, climb, lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
- Supervisory/Leadership skills: solid experience leading a team of operators, making informed and timely decisions. Ensure clear communication, coordination and collaboration. Develop operators to enhance skills related to boiler, chiller and CHP systems.
- Operate, monitor and maintain boilers, chillers, cooling towers, evaporative coolers, ice water storage, pumps, fans, RO systems, water softeners, switch gear, MCC, feed water pumps, condensate system, steam induction pumps, isolation and control valves, Delta V or other operating systems, HMI, diesel pumps, tanks, generators, air compressors, water lab testing and safe chemical handling.
- Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system expertise: in‑depth knowledge and hands‑on experience operating, optimizing and maintaining chilled water, steam, condensate and cooling towers, including understanding simultaneous generation of electricity and useful heat associated with CHP.
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to chiller, boilers and CHP systems, including diagnosing Max functions, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain and update shift schedules, administer overtime distribution and operator payroll, and create various reports.
- Interview future operators.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, safety standards and industry guidelines for Steam Plant and CHP operations.
- Data analysis: monitor and analyze performance data to optimize efficiency and identify improvements.
- Energy efficiency optimization: maximize utilization of waste heat and improve overall performance of CHP system.
- Obtain universal EPA refrigerant certification.
- Previous experience working in a unionized environment is considered an asset.
