JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Financial Aid Reconciliation Coordinator is required to have specialized knowledge of federal financial aid regulations and complex reconciliation processes that extend beyond standard accounting functions. The incumbent will serve as the primary liaison between the Office of Student Financial Aid and the University’s Business Office to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Education (ED) regulation 34 CFR 668.166. At a minimum, a school should reconcile its FSA financial records monthly and should do so on a more frequent basis during periods of high transaction volume.

Some FSA programs require monthly reconciliations, such as the William

D. Ford Federal Direct Loan, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Perkins Program. However, the more frequently your school performs reconciliation, the more likely you will be able to identify issues and resolve them before they become part of a bigger problem. Frequent reconciliation is an important internal control procedure that can make a significant contribution to increasing the overall program integrity of the FSA programs at your school.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of Pell, SEOG, and Direct Loans. Ensure that SU ’s internal financial aid records align with the U.S. Department of Education’s systems at both the cumulative and individual student levels.
  • Perform both internal and external reconciliations, ensuring that the Southern University and A&M College at Baton Rouge (SU ) Business Office and Financial Aid Office records are accurate and consistent.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Director or Associate Director of Financial Aid.
