Athletic Trainer - High School - Baton Rouge
Job Summary:
This position assumes responsibility for planning, organizing, and conducting the athletic trainer program at a high‑school in Baton Rouge. The Athletic Trainer will maintain injury logs, provide injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation, collaborate with physicians in the Sports Medicine Institute. Responsibilities include on‑field immediate care, data entry, and participation in continuing education and research.
Sign‑On Bonus: Up to $15,000 available for external candidates.
Physical & Environmental Demands- Heavy work: occasionally exerting over 100 lbs and frequently over 50 lbs.
- Flexibility:
Must work flexible hours, including longer than 8 hours a day, and be able to travel between facilities. - Physical tasks: stooping, bending, reaching, carrying, and working in outdoor temperatures up to 100 °F.
- Prepare age‑appropriate prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation plans under physician supervision.
- Provide on‑field immediate care Brown guidance for injury, recommending physician or therapy follow‑up.
- Maintain injury logs per contractual agreements and document per policy and procedure manuals.
- Maintain state licensure and certifications.
- Assist in day‑to‑day operations of the athletic program.
- Adapt communication and behavior to the specific student population, respecting privacy and explaining services clearly.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training (required). Master’s degree preferred.
- Work Experience: None required (Master’s preferred).
- Certifications: Current Athletic Trainer License in the state of practice (required), Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association (required), Dual license in Louisiana and Mississippi (preferred).
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Computer skills for data entry and retrieval; proficiency with Windows applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication aru presenting information clearly to varied audiences.
- Ability to tolerate temperatures of 100 °F or more for up to three hours during outdoor events.
- Physical & Logistical Requirements:
- Periodically lift more than 100 lbs; frequently lift over 50 lbs; handle light loads constantly as needed.
- Use mechanical lifting devices or team lifts when possible. Travel within and between facilities; flexible schedule; manual dexterity for stooping, bending, reaching.
