Workers’ Compensation Medical Services Analyst – Office of Workers’ Compensation

The Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration (OWCA)The Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration (OWCA) in Louisiana oversees the enforcement and administration of workers’ compensation laws, aiming to support early return‑to‑work efforts and improve workplace safety. It does not process individual claims or issue benefit payments.
Role OverviewThe Workers’ Compensation Medical Service Analyst is responsible for scheduling all IME requests made under La. R.S. 23:1123. Pre‑litigation medical exams are scheduled with neutral physicians to determine medical condition or work capacity when two opposing physicians disagree. A network of IME physicians across multiple specialties and geographic locations must be maintained and coordinated for court‑ordered IMEs under La. R.S. 23:1124.

- Making Accurate Judgments: Ability to assess options, weigh risks, and make sound decisions using logical reasoning.
- Solving Problems: Ability to identify root causes, analyze relevant data, and apply practical or innovative solutions.
- Experience: Five years in workers’ compensation; or six years full‑time experience in any field plus two years in workers’ compensation; or a bachelor’s degree plus two years workers’ compensation. Experience substitution available (up to four years of substitute experience).
- Coordinate billing and missing medical record issues between parties and physicians.
- Collaborate with the assigned RN on case notifications, phone calls, and scheduling changes.
- Confer with physicians, attorneys, carriers, claimants, employers, and judges to obtain required documentation for scheduling medical appointments.
- Coordinate with physicians’ offices, carriers, and the attorney to confirm attendance.
- Maintain data points to monitor trends, goal achievement, and statutory compliance.
