The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University, anticipates hiring three postdoctoral employees. The three positions are supported by a 3 year grant to study the Deepwater Horizon oil spill:

Stable Isotope Ecological Chemist – position #036588

Stable Isotope Ecological Chemist – position #036588

The successful candidate will provide the expertise and labor to conduct field observations and laboratory studies, critical reading of research literature, and writing up results regarding an examination of stressors on wetland ecosystems. The employee must be able to work independently. Supervision of one Research Associate is anticipated. Previous experience with using mass spectrometers, and interpreting stable isotope data for food web studies.

The successful candidate will provide the expertise and labor to conduct field observations and laboratory studies, critical reading of research literature, and writing up results regarding an examination of stressors on wetland ecosystems. The employee must be able to work independently. Experience with small boats, statistics, self-contained photosynthetic field instrumentation, and data management are necessary.

Field Ecologist – position #036590

The successful candidate will provide the expertise and labor to conduct field observations and laboratory studies, critical reading of research literature, and writing up results regarding an examination of stressors on wetland ecosystems. The employee must be able to work independently. Approximately 50% of the applicant’s time is involved in managing the project for the group’s benefit, including budgets, field excursions, reports and meetings.

The minimum requirements are:
Ph.D. in a field related to environmental sciences. Applicants must be capable of fieldwork in difficult working conditions. Ability to interact with the public, academics, students, and agency personnel. Experience giving science talks and at least 2 peer-reviewed science publications. Experience with small boats, statistics, and data management are necessary. The salary for each position is $45,000 per annum, and the appointment is for 100% time.

The starting date is contingent upon finding a suitable applicant. The appointment is reviewed annually, with anticipated funding through 30 August 2014.

An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check. Application reviews start February 15, 2012 and continue until a candidate is selected.
