American Traveler is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse for a Medical ICU position requiring at least 1 year of recent ICU experience and a valid Michigan RN license.
Requirements- Active Michigan RN license required (pending licenses accepted with concrete ETA and proof of application)
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS (NIHSS must be renewed annually)
- Minimum 1 year of recent ICU experience required
- Community hospital experience preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Required skills include dysrhythmia interpretation/management, multisystem organ failure management, IV insulin protocols, CVVHD/CRRT, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, cardiac and vasoactive drip titration, CVA/acute stroke management, BiPAP/CPAP management, ventilator management, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
- Proof of flu vaccination required with consideration, with any exemption requests submitted within 48 hours of signing
- Supervisor-level references required
- MICU setting with a mix of ICU and PCU patients
- Day shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on acuity, with vent patients at 2:1 and cooling/CRRT/high acuity patients at 1:1
- Patient diagnoses include COPD, encephalopathy, drug overdose, DKA, AKI, respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, HF, and A-fib
- Unit performs special procedures including CRRT, HD, A-line placement, CVC placement, trach placement, and chest tube placement
- Utilizes specialized equipment including cooling machines, Bair Huggers, and massive transfusion protocols
- Average of 3 ventilated patients per day
- Every other weekend work requirement
- Floating required to other ICU and Med-Surg units as census flexes, with travelers floating in rotation alongside staff RNs
- Typical Med-Surg ratios during float assignments are approximately 1:5-7 patients per RN
- Epic charting system experience preferred
- Facility is a designated Primary Stroke Destination by the Joint Commission
- ICU physicians may retain lower-acuity patients in the ICU rather than transferring, in which case these patients may be grouped with 3-4 patient assignments
- Travelers float first when census requires
- Holiday coverage is required
- No RTO permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment, and all RTO must be submitted prior to offer
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous Bronson travelers may return after 6 months; previous permanent staff may return after 1 year
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
- Annual self-reported training modules (8 hours, non-billable) completed during orientation and annually thereafter
