CITY OF BAY CITY Full Time - Zoning Enforcement Officer Community Development - UWUA L#541 JOB SUMMARY
This is a full-time union position under the general supervision of the Planning & Zoning Manager. The Zoning Enforcement Officer is responsible for administrating the City's Code of Ordinances associated with planning and zoning. Enforces the City’s Code of Ordinances and conducts review of building permit and sign permit applications for compliance with applicable codes.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- General knowledge of Michigan statutes and the principles and practices of municipal planning and zoning.
- Work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
- Establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with city officials, developers, project contractors and the public.
- Communicate effectively and present written ideas and oral presentations.
- Work with numerous interruptions and work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines.
- Prepare agenda, assists with public hearing notifications and attends monthly meetings of the Zoning Board of Appeals.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Associate degree required with major coursework in engineering, architecture, planning, building or related studies or high school graduate/GED with the following minimum equivalent combination of job-related education and experience: 2 years of municipal planning or zoning experience and knowledge of inspection methods, practices and techniques pertaining to building and zoning; or 5 years of experience in inspections or supervision of building construction.
- Skill in reviewing and interpreting plans, blueprints and specifications.
- Operation of a personal computer required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver's license.
- High degree of independent critical thinking skills for sustained periods of time.
