Employment Type: Contract through Jan 11, 2027 (High potential for extension)
Location: Michigan (Hybrid – preference for Bay City or Stockbridge; open to candidates across Michigan, including Upper Peninsula. Office in Escanaba)
Travel: Approximately 20% (about once per month to project sites)
Schedule: Standard hybrid work schedule; occasional overtime during peak periods, with reduced hours during slower months
The Project Manager II is responsible for managing medium-sized capital projects (up to $2–3 million) across a defined Michigan region. Projects may include electrical, mechanical, pipeline, or building-related construction initiatives. This role requires a highly organized, self-motivated project manager who can operate effectively in an evolving environment with limited formalized procedures and help shape best practices for project execution. The ideal candidate will have strong construction or pipeline project experience, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a proactive approach to resolving issues and driving projects to completion.
Key Responsibilities- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, typically:
- 2–3 active construction projects
- 3–4 projects in development or planning phases
- Assume full project ownership upon receipt of a project charter, including:
- Developing and maintaining project schedules
- Managing scope, cost, and schedule performance
- Providing regular project status reporting to management
- Coordinate procurement of major materials and equipment
- Engage and manage:
- Internal labor resources
- Contract labor and external engineering support
- Contractors, inspectors, and site safety representatives
- Oversee on-site contractor activities to ensure safety, quality, and compliance
- Ensure all project documentation is properly completed, submitted, and archived per company requirements
- Track, submit, and close Management of Change (MOC) documentation, including completion of required follow-up testing
- Identify project risks, issues, and challenges; drive resolution and maintain project momentum
- Work through ambiguity and evolving processes while providing input on improving project execution standards, checklists, and workflows
- Collaborate with internal technical teams for design interpretation, material selection, and compliance with engineering standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial)
preferred - Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in construction or industrial environments
- Experience managing capital projects valued up to $2–3 million
- Strong organizational, scheduling, and reporting skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Experience working with contractors, vendors, and external engineering firms
- Ability to travel up to 20% within Michigan
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, results‑driven mindset
- Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment
- Construction project management experience (strongly preferred)
- Pipeline project experience (highly preferred)
- Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) processes
- Experience working in environments with developing or evolving project processes
