Responsibilities& Qualifications
The Novelis Operational Excellence team located in Bay Minette, AL is seeking an Operational Excellence Engineer. The role is a change agent, engaging the workforce, while providing direction and support in the plant’s drive for continual improvement.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the implementation of Novelis Operating System (NOS) for the plant and audit the effectiveness
- Assist in the identification of improvement projects with the greatest value through data analysis.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and process to safely improve operational performance.
- Develop and implement the site's “loss intelligence system” for prioritized improvement initiatives tied to critical assets.
- Apply engineering background and statistical approach to help non-analytical roles to define true opportunity for improvement
- Work with leadership on the development of Centers of Excellence (CoE) structures assigned for system improvements (PM - Preventative Maintenance, PQ - Progressive Quality, OC - Operator Care, SI - Specific Improvement and E&T - Education & Training)
- Support business objectives and the Improvement Planning Cycle (IPC), single agenda
- Pull, analyze and interpret data as needed for decisions on priorities
- Facilitate Performance Improvement and focus on getting results to meet business objectives
- Lead or co-lead various Improvement Events – Rapid Improvement Events, Value Stream Analysis, 5s, Standard Work, Flow Cells and DMAIC projects resulting in measurable business improvements
- Optimize key assets using asset effectiveness, identifying the losses to drive improvement projects
- Work closely with Process and Operational Leaders identifying barriers and encouraging teamwork.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Process, Industrial, Mechanical) or technical field
- 6+ years of experience in process, engineering, automation or manufacturing
- Previous improvement experience
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training
- Machine data collection and analytics
- Experience programming analytics tools (Minitab, Power
BI)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in engineering or business
- Experience in a similar business, prefer metal industry
- Experience implementing TPM, Lean, WCM
- Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Master Black Belt certified
- Project management experience
- SAP knowledge
