Position

Teaching and Learning Assistant – Student Services (Full‑time, term)

Location:

Bay Roberts Primary, Bay Roberts.

Job term:
September 8, 2026 – June 25, 2027.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Service Delivery Team, the TLA will support teaching and learning in an inclusive environment covering planning, instruction, social‑emotional learning, assessment, evaluation, and student data collection.

Standards of Practice
  • Supports and assists the classroom teacher with planning responsive teaching and learning
  • Gathers evidence of student learning and uses strategies to reinforce diverse teacher instruction to support learning
  • Creates and maintains a supportive, safe, and inclusive environment
  • Engages collaboratively with families and the school community
  • Demonstrates professionalism
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Service Delivery Team in implementing programs and services for students including instructional supports
  • Have an understanding of child and youth development
  • Assist students with executive functioning skills and coregulation
  • Observe individual student progress and behavior under the direction of the Service Delivery Team
  • Work collaboratively to maintain a safe, secure and supportive environment for students and staff through de‑escalation strategies and remaining calm in stressful situations
  • Encourage students to develop independent skills, self‑esteem and self‑confidence
  • Promote student participation in classroom and non‑instructional activities, field trips, etc.
  • Participate as a member of school teams to meet student needs
  • Maintain effective professional working relationships
  • Commit to ongoing professional learning and willingness to enhance skills and knowledge through professional learning
  • Highly effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  • Assist students with alternate format materials and operation of specialized assistive technologies
Minimum Qualifications
  • Teacher's Certificate Level Two (II) from Teacher Certification – Department of Education
