Registered Nurse - Ambulatory Oncology

Base pay range $68,000.00/yr - $/yr

This role performs an age specific plan of care for a designated group of patients using the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.

• Conducts patient interview, explains policies and procedures to patient and significant others, reviews patient’s chart and answers questions; assesses gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and neurological health status; determines mobility, sensory deficits, etc.; assesses pain and pain management; communicates and documents patient’s physiologic health status and plan of care.
• Assesses patient’s psychosocial health status, elicits perception of medical/nursing care, determines coping mechanisms, knowledge level, cultural/ethnic requirements, and documents psychological status and support plan.
• Identifies patient outcome, develops criteria for measurement, identifies patient problems and teaching needs.
• Develops patient outcome statement(s) and establishes individualized patient goals.
• Identifies care activities and prioritizes them, coordinates cost‑effective use of supplies, equipment, and medication, documents plan of care, collaborates with physicians and team members.
• Implements the plan of care, maintains vigilance over patient care, administers treatments, uses equipment, provides emotional support, applies scientific principles, keeps accurate documentation, manages emergencies and provides discharge instructions.
• Demonstrates ability to measure effectiveness of care, performs variance analysis, designs, implements, and evaluates systems to improve care in unit.
• Collaborates with other care team members, provides direction, collaborates with physicians on patient’s plan of care.
• Accurately interprets and implements treatment regimen as prescribed, assists physicians during treatments and diagnostic procedures, uses clinical judgment in delegating assignments.
• Performs grade I‑IV Decubitus Care, preventive skin care measures, simple dressings, warm and cold compresses, irrigations, and other skin care procedures.
• Administers medications correctly, safely; identifies medication action, dosage, side effects, and implications; meets standard on medication administration examination; prepares local solutions.
• Participates in patient and family education, provides patient with condition explanation, records/upgrades/verbalizes information to team, provides discharge planning and referrals, evaluates effectiveness of teaching.
• Performs related duties as required.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two (2) years and obtain a BSN Degree within five (5) years of job entry date.
• Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
• Oncology experience preferred.
• 2 years of inpatient experience preferred.
• Education navigation experience preferred.
