At Pickstock, we’re proud to be a leading UK processor of high-quality, sustainably produced British beef. Based in Telford, our family-owned business puts high welfare, environmental responsibility and professionalism at the heart of everything we do.

We’re currently seeking a Loading Bay Operative to join our team in a critical position that links two of our most vital operations—the Abattoir and Boning Hall. This is more than just a physical role; it’s an essential part of ensuring seamless production and timely delivery of our high-quality products.

What You’ll Doing As a core member of the production flow team, you will:
  • Safely move beef carcasses from the slaughterhouse production line to the Loading Bay chillers, using manual handling techniques or mechanical equipment, including roping and loading of carcasses, hanging carcass quarters, and splitting of carcasses (requiring saw and knife skills, training provided).
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation within the loading bay area.
  • Adhere to all health & safety and food safety procedures, including checking carcass temperatures.
  • Support the wider production team to meet daily operational targets.
  • Load carcasses onto refrigerated vehicles based on customer orders and product specifications (training provided), in line with hygiene and safety standards.
  • Opportunity to develop your skills across 4 butchery levels with full training provided.
  • Other duties as and when required by the business.
Essentials

What You’ll Bring
  • High levels of physical fitness – this role involves consistent manual handling.
  • Willingness to work in cold environments and adhere to strict hygiene procedures.
  • Good communication and time management skills.
  • Previous experience in a meat processing or food production environment.
  • Basic knife skills.
  • A proactive, dependable approach to teamwork.
  • A team‑player attitude with good communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail.
Desirable
  • Familiarity with health & safety and food safety regulations.
It’s a Bonus If You Have
  • Specialist knife skills, and previous experience working on boning saws.
  • Experience of loading and unloading animal carcasses.
  • PH calibration experience.
