Join to apply for the Chief Engineer role at Centerline Logistics Corporation.

Work on an assigned vessel on a regular, equal time schedule and be available to assist engineering and operations as scheduled, both on and off duty. Work as directed by the Port Engineer.

Responsibilities
  • Schedule long-term maintenance of tugs and barges in coordination with the Sr. Port Engineer.
  • Communicate with the Sr. Port Engineer to establish priorities and resource availability.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities and ensure proper documentation of vessel maintenance.
  • Perform vessel inspections for repair, maintenance standards, and regulatory compliance, including bi-annual engineering inspections.
  • Assist in compiling and prioritizing worklists for routine and major maintenance, including dry dock periods.
  • Communicate clearly with the Sr. Port Engineer regarding ongoing work and promptly report issues affecting vessel operations.
  • Perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate on projects to improve workflow and engineering processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Port Engineer.
  • Act as liaison between vessel engineers and management.
  • Assist in evaluating and training engineers within the fleet.
  • Qualifications
  • Experience in maintaining tugs and barges.
  • At least two years of experience on tugs, tankers, oil barges, or equivalent military experience.
  • Preferred:
    Four years of progressively responsible maritime industry experience.
  • US Coast Guard license (DDE Unlimited or higher) on a Merchant Mariner’s Document is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of oil transportation and marine industry practices is preferred.
  • Familiarity with tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
  • Ability to repair marine equipment on-site under adverse conditions.
  • Strong communication skills, courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive communications confidentially.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good interpersonal skills with office staff and vessel crew.
  • Physical fitness to board vessels at sea and port.
  • Familiarity with tank barge operations, ship operations, and terminal/refinery operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Valid TWIC or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • First Aid/CPR training is preferred.
  • Work Environment
  • Decisive leadership to facilitate prompt service delivery.
  • Work aboard boats and barges using various mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Board tugs, barges, and ships in all weather conditions and at all hours, at dock or anchor.
  • Hours of Work
  • Equal time schedule, vessel and schedule to be determined by the Port Engineer.
  • This is an "At Sea" position with 24-hour communication availability concerning vessel maintenance and operations.
