About Baytown

Baytown, Texas, with a population of more than 77,000, lies in the Gulf Coast region, east of Houston. Exxon Mobil’s Baytown Complex covers approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It employs more than 8,500 people across four manufacturing sites and a global technology center, including the Baytown Refinery and Baytown Olefins Plant.

Its product portfolio includes fuels, lube oils, and chemical compounds used in diverse products such as battery cases, diapers, tire inner tubes, pharmaceutical uses, food packaging, and trash bags.

The Baytown area sites are highly integrated, enabling us to develop cleaner fuels and operate safely and reliably.

What you will do
  • Participate on the unit Operations team.
  • Proactively identify issues before Operations impact.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex unit problems.
  • Organize resolution of technical issues.
  • Lead and/or participate in incident investigation teams.
  • Interface with external organizations (e.g., Engineering, Technology).
  • Initiate, support, and champion technically advanced solutions.
  • Maintain key interfaces (e.g., EM networks, Research Institutes, key vendors).
  • Provide technical reviews of special unit operations and equipment strategies.
  • Identify unit improvement ideas to support site initiatives (energy, reliability, cost).
  • Lead and/or implement larger improvement projects to support site initiatives.
  • Provide technical review of process safety studies (HAZOPs, SRR, LOPA).
  • Consult on process safety for the unit.
  • Share safety learnings.
  • Provide training and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Support the Utilities network and associated EM sites.
  • Develop and expand technology via partnerships and developmental projects.
About you

- Skills and Qualifications
  • B.S. (or higher) in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of industry-related experience.
  • Demonstrated design experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capability of working independently and achieving high standards.
  • Capability of working with and leading teams effectively.
  • Mentor/role model for setting work standards and business ethics.
  • Leadership skills to influence Operations team.
Preferred Qualifications /Experience
  • Experience in Petroleum Refining or Chemical industries, or an industry-adjacent contractor.
  • Experience in off-site systems (e.g., flares, storage facilities, shipping, logistics, docks, pipeline).
  • Experience in engineering support of Utilities operations in a plant manufacturing environment.
