Location:

Baytown, TX and area. Float job. Baytown is home base. Floating to:
Lake City, Texas City, Clear Lake, Baytown.

Schedule:

7:30 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Hours vary but must be available.

Employment type:

Contract to hire; potential for permanent.

Projected duration: 3 months + potential for permanent.

Note:

Phlebotomy on all types of patients. Hospital experience is a plus.

The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, training and making work flow recommendations.

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
• Explain clearly the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine) as required.
• Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
• Fully understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy (100%).
• Package specimens for transport and store according to required temperature; label and follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed.

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where employed (as required).
• Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must have minimum 3 years of experience (note: stated in original description).
