SummaryThe Safety, Health & Environment Manager promotes the Company’s IIF culture by ensuring every co‑worker returns home safely every night. The Manager is expected to spend a minimum of 90% of time in the field observing and coaching co‑workers and Field Safety Representatives on correction of unsafe conditions and behaviors. The Manager reinforces positive behavior through recognition and/or rewards. The Manager serves as a resource to co‑workers by answering safety questions and sharing lessons learned.
The Manager uses leading indicators to influence the future direction of safety on the project. The Manager embeds self with the project team and strategically “dives in” using a hands‑on approach to improve project safety, quality and productivity (SQP).
The Safety, Health & Environment Manager will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform the role in a safe, productive and effective manner. The areas listed are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by this role. - Develop relationships with project co‑workers to promote the IIF culture
- Observe and coach co‑workers responsible for Mission Task Analyses (MTAs) and Tool Box Talks to ensure they are completed effectively
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors, and coach the immediate correction to eliminate the condition or behavior
- Participate personally, when possible, to make safety corrections
- Advise project supervision on actions necessary to correct unsafe work conditions and/or behaviors
- Communicate observations, corrective actions, incidents, etc. through participation in daily project meetings
- Define and communicate a consistent, dynamic vision for IIF Safety to both internal and external customers
- Conduct new hire orientation, as needed
- Participate in the job transition process to identify the safety and IIF cultural responsibilities for a specific project (e.g., safety clinics, safety professional to co‑worker ratio, OSHA 10, site‑specific safety plan, etc.) and implement and maintain the safety plan
- Identify and implement recognition and reward programs to motivate co‑workers to live the IIF culture
- Lead the investigation of job‑site incidents to identify the root cause and communicate that information to job management
- Participate in weekly incident review calls and communicate incident review summaries to co‑workers during Tool Box Talks
- Notify corporate physician and follow proper notification procedures when an incident occurs
- Communicate the Company Transitional Work Program to treating physicians and clinics and explore alternative treatment options with them
- Utilize the Transitional Work Program for the injured co‑worker until full release
- Apply all OSHA regulations to the scope of work
- Ensure all project co‑workers attend IIF orientation, and lead and key personnel complete Supervisory Skills Training, OSHA 30, MTA and other required training
- Develop and maintain all required project safety records such as hazard communication manuals, training, and emergency action plans
- Notify Regional Safety Manager and/or Corporate Safety immediately when OSHA personnel arrive on site
- Conduct continual safety audits of the project
