Slitter Operator

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum one year experience with slitting operation.
• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery, hand tools, and hand‑held technical devices.
• Experience operating measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and ovality gauge.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and slitter operation.

• Examine raw material and slit coils for defects (e.g., chipped edges or marred surfaces).
• Measure master coils and finished slit coils to verify conformance to specifications using micrometers, gauges, calipers, templates, or rulers.
• Operate the Slitter equipment and perform set ups during change‑overs.
• Operation monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to ensure proper machine operation.
• Collect and maintain production data.
• Review work orders and specifications to determine materials needed for processing.
• Follow all PPE policies and safety rules.
• Follow the 5S implementation procedure.

• Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify causes of errors or other problems or defects.
• Measure coils and thickness to ensure conformance to quality requirements.
• Maintain and fill out all paperwork for shift production.
• Monitor and review information from materials, events, or the environment to detect or assess problems.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices in the work area and keep it free and clear of debris.
• Check that all machinery is properly serviced before starting up and during shift.
• Assist in repair and replacement of equipment during maintenance shutdowns.
• May operate forklift and overhead crane.
• Communicate with crew to achieve a quality product.
• Assist in change‑overs and mill stops.
• Other duties as assigned.
