JSW Steel USA is seeking a motivated Quality Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will ensure that our steel plate products meet all customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality requirements. You will partner closely with production, inspection, rework, and support teams to drive continuous improvement and uphold our strong mill-wide quality culture.
Responsibilities- Monitor steel plate quality throughout rolling, cutting, grinding, and finishing operations.
- Review and interpret customer specifications, mill orders, heat charts, and material test reports (MTRs).
- Perform in-process and final inspections including dimensional checks, flatness, surface quality, and other key attributes.
- Support NDT (UT/MT) inspections with criteria guidance, calibration assistance, and documentation review.
- Identify and analyze plate defects (laminations, offsets, scratches, gouges, edge waves, etc.).
- Collaborate with Rework (Grinding/Recut) teams to determine corrective actions.
- Validate and release plates after rework to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Track rework trends and recommend actions to reduce recurring issues.
- Develop and maintain control plans, inspection standards, and sampling procedures.
- Maintain accurate inspection records, NCRs, corrective actions, and audit documentation.
- Participate in ISO, API, and customer audits by providing data and process demonstrations.
- Develop dashboards (Power BI preferred) to monitor key metrics and defect trends.
- Communicate quality requirements and feedback to operators and supervisors.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure seamless communication and alignment across the mill.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial, Quality, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work on the mill floor and adapt to a manufacturing environment.
- Willingness to work weekends and rotating shifts.
- Knowledge of steel plate production processes (rolling, cutting, grinding, NDT), (preferred).
- Strong understanding of quality tools (SPC, RCA, 5‑Why, Pareto, FMEA, control plans, etc.), (preferred).
- Proficiency with MS Office, Power BI, SAP, Visio, and Bluebeam (preferred).
- Experience with Tableau, AutoCAD, or Smartsheet (preferred).
- 1 or more years of experience in steel manufacturing, metals, or heavy industrial environments (preferred).
