Summary
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing advanced troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance in a fast-paced manufacturing/packaging environment while also providing guidance and leadership to the maintenance team. This role ensures equipment reliability, supports compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and serves as the primary point of contact between technicians and supervisors to balance workload, priorities, and operational efficiency.
Qualifications and Experience- High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or equivalent training preferred.
- Minimum of 3+ years mechanical maintenance experience in manufacturing, packaging, or industrial environments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with advanced troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with SAP or similar maintenance management systems preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and regulatory documents.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to lead and motivate a team.
- Demonstrated dependability, initiative, and commitment to safety and operational excellence.
- Ability to distinguish wiring colors and perform electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, and respond to callouts as needed.
- Physical requirements:
lift up to 55 lbs., climb ladders/stairs, and work in varied positions (standing, crouching, kneeling). - Must be able to wear personal protective equipment and respond to visual/audible alarms.
- Ability to work in indoor/outdoor environments with temperature extremes.
- 18 years or older, have a valid driver’s license, and are legally able to work in the U.S., pass a drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Serves as the lead point of contact for maintenance technicians, providing direction, training, and mentorship.
- Supports the Maintenance Supervisor in planning and scheduling maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
- Act as backup to the Maintenance Supervisor when required, including leading toolbox meetings and reporting updates.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment including pumps, motors, conveyors, compressors, valves, and packaging machinery.
- Performs preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure safe and reliable operation of equipment.
- Utilizes precision tools and test equipment for alignments, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Maintains accurate records of maintenance activities, time, and regulatory reports.
- Supports equipment acceptance testing and commissioning during start-up projects.
- Ensure safety is prioritized in every task, including adherence to LOTO, JSA, and Hot Work Permit procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and process safety management reviews.
- Identifies opportunities to improve maintenance processes and equipment reliability.
- Recommend modifications to equipment and procedures to enhance performance and safety.
- Supports cross-training initiatives to build team capability across multiple technical areas.
- Maintain strong knowledge of Process Safety Management Systems (PSMS) training and apply it consistently in daily operations.
