Flux Leakage Test Technician – Baytown, TX
Location: Baytown, Texas, USA

PurposeResponsible for performing nondestructive testing (NDT) of seamless pipes using Electromagnetic Inspection (EMI) equipment to detect surface and subsurface discontinuities. This role ensures all inspections are conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with API 5CT, ASTM, and customer‑specific requirements. The technician is accountable for equipment setup, calibration, and operation of EMI systems, maintaining inspection integrity through accurate data recording, calibration verification, and adherence to Tenaris Quality and Safety Standards.
MainActivities
- Minimum of MFL L2 NDT Certification required (certificates must be presented).
- Perform equipment setup and product changeovers according to established Work Instructions and Procedures.
- Verify instrument calibration, integrity, and readiness prior to inspection in line with applicable API 5CT, ASTM, and customer specifications.
- Conduct dynamic calibration of the EMI system to ensure testing accuracy and repeatability.
- Inspect and validate Reference Standard Pipes (RSPs) for compliance and quality requirements.
- Operate the EMI inspection system efficiently, within defined operating parameters.
- Execute EMI testing to detect and identify material discontinuities or surface defects.
- Collaborate with Prove‑Up Operators to assess defect characteristics and equipment sensitivity.
- Review Manufacturing Orders to confirm inspection scope and applicable testing standards.
- Accurately complete quality and inspection reports (digital and/or paper), including calibration records and defect logs.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), preventative maintenance (PM Day), and routine operational maintenance such as head cleaning and RSP verifications.
- Maintain accurate digital records and ensure traceability of inspection data and results.
- Uphold housekeeping standards within the workstation and Finishing Line as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- MFL Level II NDT Certification (required).
- 2+ years of experience in NDT, quality inspection, or industrial manufacturing preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfortable working with complex inspection equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical standards and follow work instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify irregularities.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team internally and externally.
- Dependable, organized, and committed to maintaining safety and quality compliance.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as production requires.
