The City of Mont Belvieu, Texas is currently accepting applications for an Maintenance Helper at the Public Works Department. The City of Mont Belvieu is a growing community located on IH‑10 east of Houston, Texas in Chambers County.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for all Public Works general laborer work. This includes drainage, roadway, water, sewer, water well, and sewer plant areas of work. Tasks change daily so ability to adapt to immediate needs is a must. General essential duties are outlined below, but the position includes any manual labor task needed to operate and maintain the city’s essential services.

Essential

Duties And Responsibilities
  • General dirt work including excavation and filling
  • Street sweeping and inlet cleaning
  • Asphalt pothole repairs
  • Small concrete work including formwork, rebar laying, pouring, floating, and finishing
  • Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, small equipment, and city vehicles
  • Repair water leaks involving main water lines, service lines, fire hydrants, water meters and valves
  • Installation of new water lines
  • Installation of new water taps
  • Installation of sewer taps
  • Unclogging of sewer lines
  • Cleaning of sewer manholes and lift stations
  • Participate in maintenance and repair of pumps and motors involved in water & wastewater operations
  • Yard maintenance and facility repairs
  • Perform valve exercising, dead‑end main flushing and fire hydrant maintenance
  • Some “on‑call”, evening or weekend work will be required during urgent or emergency situations
  • Will work in inclement conditions and sometimes harsh environments
  • During emergency conditions, all City employees are subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and are expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned
  • Performs all other related duties or assignments as assigned

No supervisory responsibilities.

Required Education And Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Experience with any essential duties will be a plus
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver License

An equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.
