Schedule:
Dupont Schedule – Full Time Rotating Shift that requires flexibility
- Shifts include working some weekends, holidays, & overtime as needed
- Hours:
- 4:30 am – 4:30 pm on Day Shift
- 4:30 pm – 4:30 am on Night Shift
As a Railroad Switchman at Brown and Root, you will play a key role in the safe and efficient movement of railcars within our client’s facilities. Responsibilities include monitoring and aligning track switch points, inspecting track conditions, and safely coupling and uncoupling railcars. This role requires physical strength, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to operational safety.
- Monitor and operate track switches to ensure proper alignment for railcar movement.
- Inspect track and switch point conditions to identify any issues affecting safe operation.
- Couple and uncouple rail cars, connecting air hoses between railcars as part of train assembly or disassembly.
- Communicate with train crews and yard personnel to ensure coordinated rail movements.
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- 2-3 years of previous experience in rail yard or switching operations.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Familiarity with rail safety protocols and procedures.
- Reliable, punctual and self‑motivated work ethic.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs both off and on railcars.
- Must pass a pre‑employment background verification and drug screening. The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. If you are offered the position, you will also be subjected to random drug screenings in addition to the required pre-drug screen.
