Duties and Responsibilities- Safe and efficient transport and delivery of freight by operating (driving) tractor‑trailer combinations
- Hook and unhook trailers from the tractor or converter dollies, including pushing and/or pulling dollies into place, cranking lever to raise/lower landing gear on semi‑trailers and/or front support of converter dollies
- Load and unload trailers, with or without mechanical freight‑handling equipment
- Perform fueling tasks and handle electronic log‑in devices (ELD)
- Inspect tractor, trailer and equipment for defects and safe operating condition before and after trips; submit conditions through automatic onboard recording device (AOBRD)
- Check shipping papers to determine load nature and cargo packing; verify additional blocking or load locks as required
- Install and remove tire chains as needed by weather conditions
- Drive truck in compliance with Federal and State regulations; observe hours of service limits and required off‑duty periods
- Apply commercial driving knowledge and maneuver skill in heavy traffic, inclement weather, and tight loading dock areas
- Ensure all shipping documentation (bills of lading, freight bills, weight tickets, etc.) accompanies shipments; submit signed documents to dispatch promptly; fax documentation if instructed
- Maintain compliance records (driver’s logs, fuel purchases, mileage, etc.) per State, Federal, and corporate requirements
- Report accidents, highway hazards, delays, and any other incidents to dispatch via two‑way phone
- Maintain punctuality and regular attendance; enforce safety and company policies at all times
- Perform other duties and assignments as requested by management
- Safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle
- Timely transportation of freight from origin to destination
- Proper loading and unloading to assure safety and minimize cargo damage
- Accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to truck operations
- Professional representation of Biagi Bros. and the trucking industry through responsible driving
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Previous tractor‑trailer driving experience with 48’‑57’ dry vans or 42’ tanks (for training positions)
- Ability to read and write in English; perform simple math, read maps, road signs; operate electronic logging devices
- Working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems
- Knowledge of DOT and State regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, and hazardous material transportation
- Availability for around‑the‑clock trips and long periods away from home when dispatched for line driving
- Meets and maintains U.S. Department of Transportation medical standards
- Satisfactorily pass a drug test; subject to random alcohol and drug testing if hired
- Ability to sit and remain alert for aggregate periods up to 11 hours interstate and 16 hours California intrastate
- Ability to shift manual transmissions and operate foot pedals
- Occasional squatting and crouching to handle freight; climb in and out of the cab (8–10 times/day) with assistance as needed
- Push or pull up to 2,000 pounds on a dolly or cart; lift freight up to 50 pounds without aid
- Carry freight weighing 1–50 pounds over distances up to 50 feet
- Reach shoulder height or below waist level frequently for controls and freight handling
- Load and unload full trailers of freight up to 50,000 pounds; perform heavy lifting and overhead stowing for 10–12 hours
- Install and remove tire chains; stand ≥40% of day, walk ≥20% on various surfaces, sometimes on slippery conditions
- Climb ladders safely; operate electronic log‑in device (ELD)
- Hook/unhook vehicles, lower/raise landing gear, release fifth wheel levers, lock/release pintle hooks, open/close cargo doors, fuel vehicles, and check engine oil/coolant levels
- Spending 10–30% outdoors in challenging environmental conditions; subject to irregular schedules, extreme temperatures, long trips, and fatigue associated with large commercial vehicles
- Occupied 30–90% of on‑duty time driving; exposure to noise and vibration higher than passenger cars
