POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of External Reporting is responsible for preparing quarterly and annual documents for external financial reporting and related requirements, including assistance and coordination with external auditors. This position also provides oversight and direction to Senior Corporate Accountants.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Prepares initial formats of quarterly press release, Form 10-Q’s, Annual Report on Form 10-K, Form 8-Ks, Proxy, 401-k Plan and other required SEC filings, and oversees completion of final documents
- Oversees quarterly and year‑end audit processes. Prepares and analyzes financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for the consolidated company
- Reviews supporting documents that support the disclosures in the financial statements and filings to confirm accuracy
- Assists in audit processes by coordinating and preparing materials and other needs of external auditors
- Utilizes SEC reporting software which includes document management and Extensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging
- Manages XBRL process, review and research of tags
- Partners with HR and others to recruit, select, orient, and train employees to help ensure our work teams exhibit a strong fit with requirements, position expectations, and organizational values and culture. Directs staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees to support individual and team success
- Ensures team members are well‑informed of corporate initiatives, challenges, and goals. Monitors and provides regular ongoing feedback regarding job results, individual performance, and opportunities for development for direct reports. Provides feedback to assist others in reinforcing cross‑functional team goals and objectives
- Assists with capital market activity and corporate governance items, as needed
- Maintains a professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing personal networks
- Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed
Business degree in accounting and CPA with five years of accounting experience in public accounting and/or a public company, including one plus years of supervisory experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics- Developed knowledge of standard accounting principles and public company financial statement disclosure requirements
- Knowledge of SEC XBRL reporting process
- Knowledge of commercial real estate
- Ability to read and interpret accounting reports, write reports, business correspondence
- High degree of initiative and independent judgment
- Work well under pressure, meeting deadlines consistently
- Strong attention to detail; organized
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities
- Ability to communicate with all levels
- Computer skills, system database and spreadsheet software capabilities
- Effective interpersonal skills; strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
CPA or plan to obtain CPA
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSCPA with Big Four or mid‑tier accounting firm experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDSNature of work requires an ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents operating standard business office equipment
WORKING CONDITIONSHybrid schedule with work performed in a general office environment based upon agreed upon days driven by deadlines. Generally, this represents 3 days a week in the office. May require availability for extended hours during peak periods and working after the close of the business day
