Physician (Family Medicine) role at Defense Health Agency.
This position is located at Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina. Located on Port Royal Island, Beaufort offers coastal views, historic charm, wildlife tours, notable filming locations, and is less than one hour from Hilton Head Island.
OverviewThis position is located at Naval Hospital Beaufort, South Carolina.
Responsibilities- Independently formulates full treatment plans based on sound evaluation and diagnoses consistent with current and evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.
- Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide multidisciplinary comprehensive care to all patients, taking into account new and emerging procedures, techniques, the patient’s personal history, and diagnostic test information.
- Provides sub‑specialty services within current granted privileges when medical specialty support is limited.
- Applies new procedures in the evaluation and treatment of complex patient cases and conducts research to advance the Family Medicine program and improve quality for other providers and patients.
- Performs emergency services or crisis intervention, including life‑saving emergency procedures when necessary.
- Promotes preventative and health‑maintenance care, stresses positive health behaviors and self‑care through education and counseling.
- Encourages patients to make lifestyle changes to improve health and provides follow‑up treatment to assess compliance and response.
- Determines and provides assessments of fitness and suitability for duty and deployment of service members.
- Provides advice by telephone or in person to other physicians, non‑physician providers, and professional medical staff on the care of patients with urgent, emergent, and non‑urgent medical problems.
- Evaluates the care provided to patients at the MTF, identifies opportunities to change care delivery, advises on difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist.
- Participates in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs, and peer review programs.
- Recommends improvements of work methods and organizational features.
- Develops guidelines and trainings for interns, residents, and other medical staff to follow when carrying out patient‑care services.
- Develops medical policy, guidance, and standard‑of‑care determinations within the MTF.
- Participates in continuing education programs to update and maintain skills and attends nationally recognized conferences as requested.
- Serves as a member of the faculty for the Family Medicine Residency Program and engages in teaching activities, including training, mentoring, supervising residency students, conducting global supervision, teaching didactics, GME meetings, teaching conferences, and case discussions.
- US Citizenship required.
- Board certification required.
- Active, unencumbered medical license required.
Mid‑Senior level.
