Job Description

The Vascular Sonographer performs the daily routine and diagnostic procedures as ordered by the Physician. Consistently produce vascular scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in Vascular Sonography exams to include: 2D scans, Duplex imaging, Ankle Brachial Index (ABI), and Doppler studies. Performs measurements and calculations according to protocol; provides a written or oral summary of preliminary findings, reports abnormal findings (if immediate attention is indicated) to the interpreting Radiologist.

Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Is responsible for the safety and well-being of all patients in the department. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with the patient(s) and health care team. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Follows all established Ultrasound, Radiology and Hospital Policies and Procedures and is proficient in exams both within and outside of the Department.

Conduct basic equipment maintenance, quality control measures, and other administrative, technical, or supervisory tasks as might be required. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

• Minimum
  
  Education and Experience:
  
  High school diploma or GED required. Preferred Associate Degree from a two-year allied health education program that is patient care related and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and registered nurse.
• Minimum two years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. 2-4 years of experience in Vascular Sonography desired. Required Licensure, Certifications, Registration.
• RVT (ARDMS), RVS (CCI), or RT(VS) (ARRT);
  Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA).
• RDMS (AB, OB/GYN) or RT(S) acceptable; however, the Sonographer must obtain Vascular registry within 12 months of date of hire.
• Physical Requirements:
  
  Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and working in confined spaces or elevated areas. Must be able to bend, twist, squat, kneel (infrequently), and reach in all directions, including overhead. Requires fine and gross motor skills, including pinching, grasping, manipulation, and repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. Ability to maintain balance and coordination using both lower extremities.
  
  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequently), including lifting/lowering from floor to overhead. Requires exerting up to 50 lbs. of force (e.g., assisting patients, pushing wheelchairs/stretchers). Must tolerate working indoors and occasionally outdoors in temperature extremes. Visual requirements include 20/40 corrected vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color discrimination. Must maintain hearing acuity (with correction) and tactile sensory function.
  
  Ability to handle stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime, and function in a latex-safe environment.

• Minimum Training and
  
  Education:
  
  Graduation from an accredited Vascular Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or Ultrasonography program is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered. Vascular Sonographers must have a minimum of two years of Vascular specific scanning experience and approval by the Supervisor to be considered for the Vascular Sonographer II position. Current staff must have all Consistent or Mentor ratings on the most recent annual evaluation and no written reprimands within a calendar year at the time of consideration for a Vascular Sonographer II position.
  
  Incoming Vascular Sonographers must have a minimum of two years of Vascular specific scanning experience and acceptable references from prior Supervisors/Managers to be hired into a Vascular Sonographer II position. Active membership in a related professional organization such as SDMS…
