Duties
  • You will determine if containers of hazardous waste received are safely and properly packaged per Department of Transportation regulations.
  • You will assist the Hazardous Waste coordinator with inventory control, review of the Authorized Use List and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets.
  • You will accept recyclable property after inspection, ensuring the documentation is in order and that containers are in proper condition and properly identified.
  • You will carry out various assignments for operation of the oil pollution abatement program i.e. skimming equipment, potable pumps, pump truck (which has a gross vehicle weight of between 26,000 and 32,000 pounds), containment booms and motor boats.
  • You will use equipment in loading and transporting of materials in containers or in bulk.
Requirements
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be able to work at a rapid pace for sustained periods of time and be able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. unaided or by using material handling equipment.
  • Must continually lift, move and otherwise handle up to 85 gallon drums and large pieces of metal.
  • Must be licensed and able to operate motor vehicles (GVW not greater than 32,000 lbs.) Capable of hauling two tons of waste.
  • Be able to operate a fork lift truck capable of lifting six tons.
  • Various licenses and certifications associated with the described work may be required by local, state or Federal authority.
  • Good overall health, stamina and upper body strength are required.
  • There is a risk of cuts, bruises, and other injuries from working in a warehouse environment and various field sites.
  • He or she is exposed to variety of toxic and corrosive vapors, liquids, and powders.
  • Works outside under varying conditions including bad weather. Outside work frequently involves very uncomfortable heat, humidity and hot sun.
  • Work requires frequent kneeling, stooping, bending, arid working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
