The purpose of this position is to safely remove household hazardous materials from convenience centers and safely transport and unload all collected materials. This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
- Separates bulks materials received such as electronics, motor oil, fluorescent bulbs, etc.
- Prepares shipments for household waste to be removed from site by labeling with designated decals or stickers.
- Loads materials to transport to shop.
- Performs clean-up and general maintenance of facility.
- Performs related work as assigned.
- Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college.
- Over three months and up to and including six months of related experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
- 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification preferred. To be obtained within 1 year of employment.
All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment.
