Job Purpose:

Provide maintenance functions, with a focus on electrical, for all buildings under the responsibility of the Technical College of the Low country.

Job Duties:
  • Maintain, install and repair electrical switches, light ballasts, all types of campus lighting including indoor, outdoor, exit and emergency lighting, replacing defective wall outlets, installing additional electrical receptacles in areas where required or during renovation projects performed by college maintenance department. Assists in ensuring all work is code compliant. Keeps records and schedules quarterly maintenance on exterior lights, exit lights and emergency lights.
  • Perform work related to the general repair, maintenance and construction in the following trade areas:
    Plumbing, carpentry, painting, HVAC and electric.
  • Troubleshooting/testing of all types of electrical equipment including low voltage to high voltage hookups, motors, transformers, control panels and light electronic controls. identifying defective parts, submitting parts lists to supervisor for immediate procurement and repairing/replacing required parts as necessary.
  • Assist in other trade specialist in repairs, renovation, upgrades, minor repairs and maintenance to equipment and tools, moves office furniture and arranges conference rooms and meeting areas as needed for various meetings and conferences; grounds-keeping duties and carpentry repairs. Respond to emergency calls after normal working hours and/or be available to work as support services for college activities such as graduation and other college hosted events outside of normal work schedule.

    Performs all other related duties as may be assigned. Operates College vehicles and a forklift when necessary.
  • Performs periodic inspections of various components of all college facilities and equipment to ensure proper upkeep and maintenance. Schedules and maintains records of preventative maintenance. Monitors and fulfills maintenance work order requests. Consults with College managers and directors to ensure all maintenance needs are being met as planned.
  • Prepares budget estimates for requested projects. Selects and purchases (or requisitions) supplies and equipment needed for maintenance and special renovation projects. Performs various administrative functions such as completion of log and historical records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and formal training or trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.

    Preferred:
    Associate Degree with four years directly related work experience to include one year in a supervisory capacity. Preferred experience includes preventative and planned maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical systems and planning and wiring new electrical systems.
