Store Protection Specialist

General Purpose

This position provides a visible presence at store entrances/exits, deters theft and fraud, and maintains a safe environment. The Specialist greets all customers with a “command” presence, monitors the Code 50 package inspection policy, walks the sales floor to identify and address potential theft indicators, and partners with Store Leadership to ensure compliance with Loss Prevention directives.

Essential Functions
  • Maintaining Safe & Secure Environment:
    • Prioritizes safety and practices safe behaviors to protect associates and customers.
    • Provides a visible “command” presence, including greetings with eye contact, at entrances/exits and on the sales floor while wearing the company vest and black attire.
    • Removes clutter and ensures clear egress to emergency exits.
  • Developing Great Teams & Partnerships:
    • Delivers excellent customer service by greeting customers, smiling, and answering questions courteously.
    • Treats all customers and associates with respect.
    • Recognizes associates using company recognition programs.
    • Participates in internal and external partner activities such as conference calls, district meetings, and associate training.
    • Assists with additional loss prevention initiatives as assigned.
  • Personal and Store Brand:
    • Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
    • Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code.
  • Mitigating Theft & Fraud:
    • Monitors entrances/exits and the sales floor for suspicious behavior.
    • Collects theft indicators and uses internal/external intelligence to influence shortage trends.
    • Communicates findings to Store Leadership and Loss Prevention Leadership.
    • Adheres to company policy for external theft response.
    • Executes best practices to maximize productivity while minimizing steps and touches.
  • Minimizing Operational Shortage:
    • Increases store awareness of effective processes to reduce operational shortage.
    • Trains and educates associates on shortage reduction initiatives.
    • Observes and validates proper checkout procedures for customers and associates.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required
  • High school education or equivalent required; AA degree preferred.
  • One year of retail supervisor experience or similar training preferred.
  • One year of loss prevention/security training preferred.
  • Active Security Guard License preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with the store team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to resolve conflict effectively.
  • Compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations for security positions, including background screening, physical examination, fingerprinting, and/or drug and alcohol testing.
Physical Requirements / ADA
  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
  • Capability to lift or lower objects more than 25 lb. from one level to another.
  • Capability to regularly bend, stoop, or crouch.
  • Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
