We are seeking an experienced High Voltage Testing Technician focused on substation relay and apparatus testing, ensuring electrical power systems are safely and efficiently commissioned. The role requires willingness to travel extensively across the country.
What You’ll Do- Test electrical equipment in substations, including protection relays, RTUs, breakers, and transformers.
- Conduct functional testing of relays, RTUs, and other protection equipment to verify proper operation and integration.
- Review project electrical drawings and relay settings to ensure readiness for commissioning.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Proactively resolve issues related to insufficient equipment and site materials.
- Perform visual inspections and equipment checkouts, including necessary electrical tests.
- Maintain documentation and records of testing and commissioning activities.
- Follow all safety protocols, executing pre‑energization safety checks.
- Travel to project sites as needed, with some trips lasting several weeks.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- 2‑year Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field (Preferred).
- 3 years of experience in high‑voltage testing and commissioning.
- Familiarity with test equipment such as Omicron, Megger, Doble, etc.
- Expertise reading and interpreting electrical single‑line diagrams, three‑line drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, network diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience testing and commissioning protection equipment and devices (e.g., protective relays, RTUs, breakers, transformers).
- Understanding of electrical hazards (shock, arc flash) and commitment to safety practices.
- Extensive travel is required, with some trips lasting several weeks. Travel schedules are planned in advance.
