Overview

Transportation Engineer Tech I or II - (2503152). Beaumont District Design Office, Beaumont, Texas. This position is part of the district design team working on the district's projects. Requires a strong mathematics background, some engineering drafting skills, and reliable teamwork. Salary/Pay
  • Transportation Engineer Tech I: A16 $ 50,000 - $61,130
  • Transportation Engineer Tech II: A18 $ 50,000 - $71,055

The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the right to determine the level of the position based on experience, education, skill level, and business needs.

Responsibilities

Performs basic design work and calculations and field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect with final approval authority. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Transportation Engineer Tech I
  • Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; handles non-routine and complex assignments.
  • Prepares field notes and quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies, and right-of-way maps.
  • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
  • Uses automated programs, interactive graphics, and the Design and Construction Information System.
  • Works on reproduction of plans and performs other responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II

The above and:

  • Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians.
  • Performs advanced drafting and calculations; develops graphic presentations with distinctive design features.
  • Reviews entire set of plans for format, drafting, and calculation errors and ensures correlation of plans and specifications.
  • Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.

High School Graduate or equivalent

Experience
:

Transportation Engineer Tech I:
No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Transportation Engineer Tech II: 2 years drafting, design, plan preparation (experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
