Community Supervision Officer - Intake​/Transfer

Summary

Monitors and supervises adult criminal offenders placed on probation and who transfer via courtesy supervision to another jurisdiction either interstate or intrastate, or who report indirectly to Jefferson County CSCD, via mail and phone.

• Sends and receives transfer request/response forms and documents, necessary to effect transfer of supervision.
• Monitors the case information and documentation of each assigned offender to ensure compliance with rules of probation; makes telephone and collateral contacts as necessary to monitor for compliance and to insure accountability of offender.
• Maintains current files on all offenders assigned to caseload; documents all contacts relevant to probationers; records information in chronos.
• Compiles data and statistics; prepares reports, case records and other documents; keeps courts and District Attorney's Office informed.
• Testifies in court when required.
• Obtains offense and arrest reports from law enforcement agencies.
• Prepares violation reports; schedules and participates in Administrative Hearings.
• Prepares paperwork for Out-of-County courtesy supervision process and case closures.
• Serves on staff committee to handle early dismissals.
• Attends and participates in staff meetings; attends training sessions, educational seminars and workshops; fulfills continuing education requirements.
• Performs other job related duties, as directed.

Bachelor's Degree Required, no exceptions. Preferred Bachelors' Degree in behavioral sciences, sociology, criminal justice or related field approved by TDCJ-CJAD. If Bachelor's Degree is not in one of those fields, a Bachelor's Degree is still required, but the applicant must have one year of graduate study in an approved field OR If Bachelors' Degree is not in one of those fields, a Bachelor's Degree is still required, but the applicant must have one year of experience in full-time casework, counseling, community or group work approved by TDCJ-CJAD.

Must become knowledgeable and keep current on Interstate Compact rules, regulations, and system changes. Also, should become knowledgeable and keep current on intrastate departmental policies as pertaining to transfer procedures. Must complete course work and obtain through testing, Certification as a Community Supervision Officer by the Community Justice Assistance Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice;
Must maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; typing skills; computer skills; excellent interpersonal skills in order to interact and cooperate with co‑workers, deal effectively with probationers and their families, law enforcement agencies, District Attorney's Office, defense attorneys, court personnel, treatment centers and other resource agencies, and the general public; effective counseling skills; leadership ability; problem solving skills.

Vehicle, personal computer/mainframe computer terminal, copy machine, and other general office equipment as needed.
