Radiology Technologist

Job SummaryThe Radiology Technologist will operate radiographic equipment to produce diagnostic radiographs, following protocols set by ER physicians and radiologists. Responsibilities include patient positioning, use of radiation safety principles (ALARA), and operating CT scanner equipment for CT scans. The technologist will administer and consent for IV and oral contrast, document procedures accurately, and prioritize patient safety and diagnostic quality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Maintain awareness of departmental and operational policies.
- Assist in equipment maintenance, including cleaning and QA procedures.
- Explain benefits and risks of procedures to patients.
- Prepare patients for examinations (contrast, IV placement, lab checks).
- Complete required forms related to contrast, extravasations, pregnancy, and other pre‑exam documentation.
- Implement safety precautions to minimize radiation exposure.
- Stay current with diagnostic radiology and CT procedures.
- Apply basic anatomy and physiology for imaging quality.
- Handle minor equipment repairs and troubleshooting.
- Utilize all radiologic and lab equipment of the ER.
- Use proper body mechanics for patient and equipment handling.
- Apply radiology safety principles during positioning.
- Seek guidance when limitations arise.
- Communicate departmental concerns to appropriate personnel.
- Transport patients safely to and from the patient care unit.
- Maintain awareness of departmental policies (repeated to emphasize importance).

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and/or Experience- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program.
- At least 1 year of radiologic/ imaging experience, including CT experience.
- Read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Write simple correspondence.
- Present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
- Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions; solve problems with multiple concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Current State licensure.
- Current BCLS certification (Texas: ARRT (R) (CT);
Colorado and Rhode Island: ARRT (R) (CT)).
