RCI Pipe Shop Weld Test Criteria
- Applicant must have ability to comprehend and administer the RCI Shop provided weld procedure and qualification requirements (WPS/PQR) for the qualifying weld tests
- For GTAW:
Test is in the 6G fixed position on a 2.5" XXS coupon for unlimited thickness to ASME Section IX - For GMAW:
Test is in the 1G and rolling out on a 6" Sched 160 coupon to qualify for unlimited thickness 0.125" RMD for root pass and 0.594" Pulsed for fill and cap to ASME Section IX
A Pipe Shop Fabrication Combo Welder will tack, weld, fabricate, and assist pipe fitters in fabrication of varying types of industrial pipe metallurgies into piping spools for field assembly by others. This position will also require assisting fitters, knowledge of basic rigging and fabrication jig-stands, rollers, etc., and knowledge of process piping specifications.
RCI has various levels of welder positions based on experience and skills.

- Must be able to regularly and reliably show up at the assigned job site
- Must meet all safety and security requirements at the assigned job site
- Selects equipment and plans layouts, assembly, and welding of pipe applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metals to be assembled, metals machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques
- Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components together in various body positions and in various places
- Bolts, clamps, and tack welds parts to secure in position for welding
- Set up equipment, wire feeders, and welding parameters for quality welds
- Weld metal materials to piping systems, supports, or associated equipment using the appropriate welding procedure for the various equipment and metal types involved
- Identify all equipment for job and process
- Identify all safety risks and requirements
- RCI former employee from a Reduction of Force (ROF)
- Current RCI Welding Certification
- Former experience of working with RCI
- Experience working as a Pipe Shop Welder
- Former experience working in the petrochemical industry
- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, waling, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting
- Will talk and hear to communicate effectively
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push and pull various objects, materials, controls or tools
- Will be required to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs in weight
- Will be required to wear necessary shop based personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety toed work boots, safety glasses/goggles, long sleeve shirts, ear plugs/muffs, and gloves
- 1 - Metal Tool Box with Lock & Bolt Bag
- 1 - Welding Hood
- 1 - Chipping Hammer
- 1 - Pair of Klein Pliers or equal
- 2 - Crescent Wrench 12" and 15"
- 1 - 25' Tape
- 1 - 32 oz. Ball Peen Hammer
- 1 - Combination Square
- 1 - Pair of Leathers (overhead welding)
- 1 - Safety Toed Boots
