About the RoleThe Field Service Technician is responsible for supporting field service teams in performing electrical testing and maintenance activities at different locations within the region. This role provides hands‑on experience in learning industry standards, safety protocols, and the operation of test equipment, while working under close supervision and guidance from experienced technicians.
Responsibilities- Electrical System Testing / Troubleshooting: Set up, operate, and break down electrical testing equipment for field service projects. Conduct electrical tests such as insulation resistance, continuity checks, breaker and transformer testing, and protective relay testing.
- Guidance / Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot electrical systems and recommend corrective actions. Accurately collect, record, and interpret test data; prepare and submit detailed test reports.
- Service Calls and Work Orders: Respond to service calls from clients or customers to address electrical issues, resolve problems, and restore functionality. Follow work orders or service requests, prioritize tasks, and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
- Compliance: Ensure all activities comply with NETA, OSHA, and company safety protocols.
- Tools Management: Maintain tools, instruments, and equipment in proper working condition.
- Quality Control: Ensure quality control for all testing activities, reports, and deliverables. Serve as an escalation point for operational, safety, and technical concerns, resolving issues promptly.
- Customer Service: Interact with customers. Act as the primary liaison between field teams, operations managers, and clients to maintain clear communication and expectations. Collaborate with operations managers, clients, and team members to ensure project efficiency and quality.
- Continued Learning and Professional Development: Stay updated with advancements in electrical technology, industry trends, and regulations. Participate in training programs, seminars, or workshops to expand knowledge and skills.
- All other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Position requires extended hours, which will vary depending on job and site requirements.
- May need to work weekends if business needs require.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- NETA Certification preferred but not required.
- NFPA 70E preferred but not required.
- Previous experience in electrical testing, maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of electrical systems, equipment, and testing procedures.
- Strong understanding of safety practices and industry regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
- Comprehends reading and drawing prints and schematics of same.
- Practices and comprehends safe work procedures as outlined in Company Safety Policy Handbook, Haz‑Com Policy, and Lockout/Tagout Policy.
- Read and interpret maps, instructional manuals, specifications, work site directions, basic drawings and written instructions.
- Operate and work from mechanical personnel lifts (electric or gas powered).
