Essential Job Functions:
Operates any or all of the following light, medium, and heavy‑duty equipment used in water/sewer maintenance: 8 to 14‑yard dump truck, tractor with flair mower, tractor with bush hog, backhoe, front‑end loader, trackhoe, dozer, boring machine, pipe‑bursting machine, steam cleaner, tractor‑trailer, winch truck, mini excavators; performs such tasks as loading refuge onto trucks and trailers; excavates and backfills trenches; cuts and clears right of ways and ditches;
loads and lays piping; inspects and reports malfunctions; makes minor repairs as needed; exercises extreme caution when operating equipment; may supervise a small crew as needed; performs manual tasks as needed.
My operate specialized heavy equipment; may train other employees; may supervise other Equipment Operators; may supervise crews in the absence of a Crew Leader. The position requires 100 % on‑site work. Works outside in all types of weather; may be exposed to constant noise, fumes, dust, dirt, odors, untreated sludge, chemicals, polymers, jolting; will work in trenches/ditches; may be required to work days, nights, and/or weekends;
work schedules subject to change based on business necessity; subject to 24‑hour call out; overtime when necessary.
Knowledge of the operating characteristics and servicing of various types of light to heavy‑duty equipment; knowledge of the work hazards and safety precautions associated with assigned equipment; knowledge of applicable traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved with the operation of equipment; knowledge of pipe bursting and directional boring.
Skills/Abilities:Skilled in the operation and servicing of one or more types of light to heavy equipment. Ability to operate all equipment in assigned area of responsibility; ability to operate a vacuum/high‑pressure cleaning truck; ability to supervise a small maintenance crew; ability to read and write; ability to perform basic arithmetic and use a calculator; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;
ability to adjust to operating conditions and recognize operating deficiencies in assigned equipment; ability to perform manual labor; skill in using grease gun, wrenches, screwdrivers, sockets, and various other hand tools; ability to fuse plastic pipe.
Physical Requirements:
Constantly sees and hears; frequently requires physical work, twists body, cleans, climbs, kneels, sits, stands, walks, drives, speaks, reads, makes decisions, pushes, pulls, carries and lifts objects weighing up to 100 lbs., infrequently writes by hand and uses a calculator; ability to write legibly.
Education/Experience:
High School graduate, or equivalent preferred; minimum one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of light to heavy equipment; depending on crew assignment, must obtain either of the following licenses within twelve (12) months of employment:
Class D Water Distribution License or Class I Wastewater Collection System License; experience in trenchless technology preferred. Must achieve and maintain required license(s) in accordance with the issuing agency's requirements.
Must possess a valid Class B/CDL with a good driving record. Other state valid drivers license equivalent to Texas Class B/CDL with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas drivers license. Must obtain a Class A/CDL within twelve (12) months of employment date.
This position requires 100 % on‑site work. Applicant selected for hire will be subject to a background investigation and drug/alcohol screen test.
