Summary

Here at Beaver Dam Health Care Center, we rely on and trust our ADON to be a contributing member of the department head team. The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) assists the Director of Nursing in managing and coordinating nursing care services in a long-term care facility. The ADON supports the nursing team, ensures high standards of resident care, maintains regulatory compliance, and fosters a positive and efficient working environment.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support Nursing Leadership: Assist the DON in planning, organizing, and directing nursing operations.

  • Supervision & Staffing: Oversee daily nursing activities and supervise nursing staff, ensuring appropriate coverage and skill mix.

  • Resident Care Oversight: Monitor the quality of care delivered to residents; support care plan development and implementation.

  • Staff Development: Assist in the orientation, training, evaluation, and ongoing education of nursing staff.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure nursing services comply with federal, state, and local regulations and facility policies.

  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

  • Infection Control: Assist with the development and monitoring of infection prevention and control protocols.

  • Incident Management: Help investigate incidents, accidents, or complaints; contribute to corrective actions.

  • Clinical Support: Provide direct nursing care in emergency or staffing shortage situations.

  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with residents, families, staff, and other departments.

Qualifications
  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin.

  • Education: Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).

  • Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in a long-term care or skilled nursing facility; leadership experience preferred.

  • Ability to lift, move, or assist residents as needed

  • Must be able to respond to emergencies quickly

Other Duties

  • Assist the immediate supervisor with various administrative tasks to support department operations as directed: may also be assigned special projects.

  • Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or redesigned depending upon individual circumstances.

  • Meet ongoing requirements to maintain current certified nursing assistant certifications.

  • Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility and corporate staff.

  • Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.

  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility’s needs require.

  • Must practice good personal hygiene and follow the dress code requirements.

  • Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test as required.

  • Support an atmosphere which promotes a homelike environment.
