Salary:
We will determine salary based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to any other employees in the same or similar role.
The Operator will operate heavy machinery for construction or excavation projects in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles.
Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
- Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
- Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must.
- Loads and hauls the machine.
- Drives, sets up, and breaks down safely and efficiently.
- Operates heavy equipment near active utilities.
- Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them.
- Rigging and setting of structures.
- Assist in other activities such as but not limited to placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring concrete, placement of asphalt, and avoiding marked utilities with appropriate precautions.
- Communicates with supervisors for job details and plans for going above or below utilities or obstacles.
- Inspects and maintains job equipment and adheres to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
- May be required to work additional hours and/or weekends, as needed, to meet deadlines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 1-year prior experience using locating equipment to find underground utilities.
- Experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities; familiarity with locate systems.
- Ability to operate asphalt roller, skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator, vacuum truck, bore machine, and other heavy equipment.
- Valid driver's license; CDL with tanker endorsement or willingness to obtain.
- DOT Medical Card.
- Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer preferred.
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Ability to follow OSHA, ANSI standards and company rules.
- Basic computer skills; knowledge of basic shoring methods.
- Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions.
- Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with crew and moving vehicles/objects for safe coordination.
- Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery.
- Must be able to stand or walk for long periods; bend, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Routinely required to bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift in awkward positions, and twist.
- Must be able to wear safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and other applicable safety gear.
