Job Summary

We are looking for a Directional Drill Operator to join our growing team. The Operator will be responsible for operating drilling equipment and/or locating the predetermined path to the exit point. They will operate in a safe manner, avoiding utilities and other obstacles. We are looking for experienced individuals with knowledge of the telecommunications construction industry.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operate drilling equipment and various other construction equipment in compliance with the company's operating safety policies and procedures.
  • Drill and/or locate predetermined path to exit point.
  • Load and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers to assist in support of drilling operations.
  • Responsible for regular maintenance and care of the assigned heavy equipment, produce any documentation needed for each job, daily communication with managers is a must.
  • Loads and hauls the machine (if appropriately licensed).
  • Drive, set up, and breakdown safely and efficiently.
  • Operate heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Have knowledge of shoring systems and how to use them.
  • Rigging and setting of structures.
  • Assist in other activities such as placement of conduit in open trenches, proofing conduits, potholing existing utilities, forming and pouring of concrete, placement of asphalt.
  • Avoid any marked utilities and implement all precautions to prevent utility strikes.
  • Communicate with supervisors for job details.
  • Before the equipment is utilized, walk the path to ensure all utilities have been located and develop a plan for going above or below each utility or obstacle in the path.
  • Inspect and maintain job equipment.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, standards, and safety rules.
  • Travel overnight to various sites as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required

Skills & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience in drilling and using locating equipment to find any underground utilities.
  • Must have experience operating heavy equipment near active utilities.
  • Must have a valid driver's license (unrestricted) and acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and MVR.
  • Must be able to operate the equipment safely.
  • Read and understand plans and specifications.
  • Must follow all OSHA, ANSI standards, as well as company rules & regulations.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills.
  • Experience and knowledge of basic shoring methods.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able and willing to work outdoors, subject to inclement weather conditions.
  • Must be able to maintain visual and audible contact with other crewmen and all moving or stationary persons/vehicles/objects to ensure safe coordination of movement.
  • Must be able to work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit or be in other physically demanding positions for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, hardhat, and any applicable safety gear.
Desired Qualifications
  • Possession of a commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement or a willingness to obtain the license.
  • DOT Medical Card or a willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience with Ditch Witch and Vermeer is preferred.
