REQUIREMENTARCTOS is seeking a post-doctoral research engineer to join our team supporting AFRL's High Speed Aerodynamics branch (AFRL/RQHA). The main objective of this position will be to support the experimental design and reduced order modeling of thin hot structure metallic skin panels. This will involve working closely with AFRL/RQH scientists and engineers, as well as non-ARCTOS contractors.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead the design, planning, setup, and execution of experiments in the AFRL Mach 6 wind tunnels (M6LT and M6
HRF). - Operate, implement, and post-process data from advanced flow diagnostic techniques, such as Infrared Thermography, Schlieren (Z-type or SAFS), Focused Laser Differential Interferometry (FLDI), and Digital Image Correlation (DIC).
- Analyze experimental data to develop physics-based, semi-empirical correlations and design guidelines.
- Use experimental data as the primary source for the development and validation of Reduced Order Models (ROMs) for transition and aerodynamic load prediction.
- Collaborate with external partners to leverage high-fidelity simulation data for deeper physical insight and ROM enhancement.
- Publish research findings in leading journals and presenting at major professional conferences (e.g., AIAA Sci Tech).
- Document efforts as required by the contract (i.e., quarterly and final reports) as well as generating other reports as required by the customer.
- Comply with all customer requirements (e.g., safety, security, etc.) for working on-base in their facilities.

M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent in Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. US Citizenship is required.
PHYSICAL/WORKING ENVIRONMENTPrimary work environment is a standard office setting.
TRAVELOccasional travel is expected and will be performed under the guidelines of Federal Travel Regulations (FTR) and/or Joint Travel Regulations (JTR).
