Job Title: Lead Technical Designer
Location: Beaverton, OR
Duration: 03 months contract
Pay Range: $55.33 – $61.00/hr on W2 all-inclusive without benefits
Job DescriptionWHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- The Studio Lead Technical Designer is someone who’s a pattern maker and sewing expert. This individual is pro-active, collaborative, safety minded, detailed oriented, and comfortable troubleshooting, sharing expertise in pattern making, garment construction and studio equipment. They participate in apparel development process with the Product Creation teams. We need someone who can be agile and work in a fluid creative environment as well as travel for fast‑pace projects as needed.
- The Lead Technical Designer/Studio Lead keeps abreast of market trends, team goals, new technologies and consumer needs throughout the development process and engages appropriately to ensure projects are completed within corporate guidelines and goals for all facets of product creation.
WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?
- The Lead Technical Designer will be responsible for patterning, sample making and fit execution of studio supported projects. They will identify and address key opportunities in pattern/construction/manufacturing and plan accordingly to deliver against the project brief. You will track and facilitate project review meetings in partnership with OSS leadership.
- They will also be responsible for providing expertise through developing and leading studio‑based trainings and help support events happening within the Apparel Maker Space, Olive St Studio. You will participate in planning, maintaining studio inventories, assets and assist in equipment use and upkeep.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING?
- Bachelor's degree in apparel design, textile science or related field.
- Additional product creation experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 10+ years pattern making or technical design experience in the apparel industry, which includes the apparel development process from inception through production including pattern making, grading, construction materials, costing, manufacturing and quality.
- Expertise in pattern making, sewing and garment construction.
- Strong problem solving, organization and communication skills.
- Experience interpreting design intent, offering alternative solutions, and acting as a technical resource.
- Expert in writing product specs and construction standards instructions.
- Proficient working with factory vendors to ensure and improve manufacturability.
- Ability to manage multiple projects.
- Experience using Adobe Illustrator, CAD Pattern Design software (Optitex) and 3D software (Clo/Browzwear); highly desired.
- Proficiency with MS Office programs.
- Project Lead and liaison for all/majority of studio supported projects.
- Support team with SOP development.
- Facilitate workshops.
- Create/write programming for workshops.
- Organize and schedule sewing machine maintenance.
Education: Bachelor's degree required (candidate must have 5‑10 years of advanced pattern‑making experience; not 10+).
Additional Requirements:
- Must be comfortable with sewing and embroidery machine (must be flexible working in this environment and needs to be able to physically do patterns and make products).
- Comfortable with Optitex, flat patterning, and Adobe.
