Dental Assistant II (EFDA) - FLOAT at Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center
Job Description:
The Dental Assistant II / EFDA assists the dentist or dental hygienist, exposes and processes X-rays, performs sealants, manages operatories, and travels to fill in at other VG Dental sites as needed.
- Assist the dentist or dental hygienist in transfer of instruments using approved dental assisting principles; assist the operator in preparation and delivery of dental materials.
- Perform expanded function duties as necessary.
- Layout necessary instruments for procedures.
- Expose and process X-rays and duplicate when necessary; ensure all X-rays are suitable for diagnosis.
- Able to perform sealants on patient treatment plans.
- Provide supportive care for patients at all times.
- Keep the operatory neat and clean during procedures; disinfect thoroughly before each patient arrives; maintain hand pieces; ensure vacuum lines, unit, chair, light, instruments, and tray setups are disinfected and sterilized at all times.
- Order and maintain inventory of dental supplies; provide administration with required and accurate purchase data; restock rooms as necessary.
- Provide evaluation of emergency patients and patient management for the dental department.
- Work with the Dental Clinic Operational Manager on infection control and OSHA guidelines.
- Take vital signs and review patient health history, updating as necessary.
- Be flexible to work on weekends on special projects; support team members to accomplish daily activities; work independently or as part of a professional team.
- Perform other duties as assigned; handle protected health information (PHI) per HIPAA guidelines.
- Education/
Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent; graduate of an accredited dental assisting program or one year of dental assistant experience preferred; previous experience in a medical/dental clinic; valid Expanded Function Dental Assistant certificate and radiology proficiency from the Oregon State Board of Dental Examiners; valid Oregon driver’s license with ability to travel to other VG Dental sites as needed. - Certification:
Valid EFDA and radiology certificates as required. - Immunizations:
Must meet immunization requirements per VGMHC policy.
- Sealant certification; experience working with diverse populations; bilingual English/Spanish preferred or willingness to learn Spanish.
- Accountability, integrity, confidentiality, and customer focus; teamwork, initiative, empathy, and ethical conduct; strong communication and respect for patients and coworkers.
- Sitting 5%, Standing 85%, Walking 50%, Computer use 5%.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs.
- Job requires flexibility to travel to VG Dental sites; immunization requirements; HIPAA compliance.
